EPISODE 139: INTERLUDE

Episode 139: Interlude

This week I present a peek behind the proverbial Views From The Longbox curtain with an off the cuff conversation with past guest Andrew Leyland co host of Hey Kids, Comics (with his son Micheal) and the Fantasticast (with Stephen Lacey).  I may have mentioned this in the past but in case I haven’t when I record with someone the software I use to capture Skype calls starts working as soon as the call starts.  That means every bit of the conversation is recorded and sometimes the conversations I have with guests before we officially start the episode are just as fun and engaging as the episode itself.  So I thought it would be fun to release one of those conversations and give you an idea of what goes on before the “magic” happens.  Andrew and I are all over the place so there really isn’t any rhyme or reason to the talk and you get to hear all kinds of background stuff like my wife bringing me a bagel and her cell phone alarm going off, which scared the hell out of me.

Oh, before I forget, the reason I am using a KITT image for the episode this week is that Andrew’s Skype avatar when we recorded was KITT.  So there you go.

Next time: No idea, but it will have something to do with Spider-Man.

EPISODE 138: HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SPIDER-MAN PART 5

Episode 138: Happy Birthday, Spider-Man Part 5 – Trapped In a World…

I really don’t know how to explain this one, folks.  I’m not even sure how I managed to record this episode.  To put it simply; at the end of the last episode I somehow became trapped in an alternate reality where the Michael Bailey of that world was a Spider-Man fan instead of a Superman fan.  I spent about a week on that world and it was just…strange.

Very strange.

Like really, freaking weird.

Anyway, having spent a week seeing how the other half lives I thought it would be a good idea to spend some time talking about how that world’s Mike got into Spider-Man instead of the Man of Steel, why it’s easier to be a Spider-Man fan than a Superman fan, what I like about Spidey and other bits of business including some of the songs that Spider-Man inspired.  At one point I hit upon a way to return home and…you’ll just have to listen to find out that all turned out.

Next time: Something kind of random but fun.  I’ll leave it as a surprise for right now.  Look at it as a brief respite between Happy Birthday, Spider-Man and the Summer of Spider-Man.

By the way…I have no idea where the above image comes from but I found it via Google Search and thought it would be fun to use.  It is very awesome to behold.

EPISODE 137: HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SPIDER-MAN PART 4

Episode 137: Happy Birthday, Spider-Man Part 4 – The British Invasion Ends

My loving and seemingly never ending birthday card to Spider-Man continues this week as I wrap up the awesome conversation I had with Andrew Leyland, the co-host of Hey Kids, Comics (with his son Micheal) and the Fantasticast (with Stephen Lacey).  Our subject?  The comics Marvel published celebrating Spider-Man’s 30th Anniversary.  In this exciting installment we not only beat the pumpkin bomb joke into the ground a few times we also talk about Amazing Spider-Man #365, Spider-Man #26 and Spectacular Spider-Man #189.  That final book causes a bit of confusion and, to be honest, embarrassment on my part towards the end of the episode because Andy and I covered it as if it were the final book and it turns out that due to a mistake on the cover date it was actually the first.  Aside from that and the fact that at one point I say Mary Jane grew up next door to Peter in the comics (which is obviously not true)  it’s a really fun episode and I want to thank Andy again for appearing on this show.

Quick warning; something really weird happens at the end of the episode.  You have been warned.

Next time: ???????????????????????????????
