Episode 141: Hal Jordan’s Festival of Fun Part II or “I’m a Pretty Lady”
Once again I head to the vaults and pull out a “lost” episode and I write “lost” episode because I have known exactly where this audio has been since it was recorded but just never got off my lazy, lack of ass to get the thing cut together. I know that I have been doing the whole “Summer of Spider-Man” thing but I really wanted to get this out because it was recorded over a year ago and I felt bad about that.
Anyway, this time out my other semi-regular co-host Thomas Deja (you know him from Better in the Dark, DJ’s Comics Cavalcade and Damn Your Eyes, Damn Your Ears) and I present part 2 of our Hal Jordan’s Festival of Fun series. In the last installment that went up several years ago we talked about Hal’s life from birth to the end of his run in Action Comics Weekly. For this installment Tom and I get all decompressed and cover Emerald Dawn, the first eight issues of the Gerard Jones Green Lantern series from 1990 and we finish things off with Emerald Dawn II. While we don’t get super detailed with the issues a lot of ground is covered with the basic theme of the episode being that this era of Green Lantern had a lot going for it and while this take on Hal has fallen out of fashion it still is equally as valid as what has been going on since 2004.
If you want to hear another take on these issues I would recommend Just One of the Guys: A Green Lantern/Guy Gardner Podcast. It is hosted by my good friend Shawn Engle and I really meant to mention it in the opening and closing tag but just plum forgot to. Shawn produces an excellent show and has a great take on this era of Green Lantern.
Next time: Savage Steve Raker from Marvel Noises joins me once again and we talk about the origins of Spider-Man as well as Peter discovering the shocking truth about his parents. Don’t miss it!
